Kemi
The waves of the Bothnian Bay caress the shore line of the Kemi center. Ice and snow, the base elements of the city image, are also remarkable factors in tourism. In winter those sea waves rise to the old harbor or break on a unique cruise at the sea.
For over ten years, there has been built the world’s biggest snow castle in the Kemi shore. The building, formed of ice and snow, is crowned with a breath-taking lightning. The snowy fortress includes a chapel, where couples from all over the world are wedded. SnowHotel, more and more popular year by year, ensures an arctic sleep at the temperature of 5 minus degrees. Boarded in the city shore, the 75-meter-long Sampo is the king of seas. It’s the world’s only tourism icebreaker, which offers an adventure in the icy Bothnian Bay.

Snowy fells are a winter adventure, which gives cheer to the life of gnomes, too. After wrapping up gifts, there’s always time for a trip to the nature. The rising fells are full of great sledge hills. The gnomes come across even a mystical, frozen waterfall.
In the spring the melting fell brooks inspire gnomes to discover a new game after another. After the trip Santa Claus invites gnomes to see the Santa Claus’ village.

Tornio, Kemi and Simo rivers are dream resorts for a fishing traveler. Located within less than an hour’s drive, they win over fishmen with flies as well as those with rod and reel.
In the bottom of the Bothnian Bay wilderness tourism is just in the reach of a line from the cities of Kemi and Tornio. A wilderness traveler doesn’t have to compromise about accommodation or the services of cities.
In Vanha Pappila, located in Simo, guests can spend the night just in the bank of Simoriver. The vast possibilities for accommodation in Kemi city supplement the fishing experience in Kemi river, running alongside the city. In addition, Tornio river combines two cities and two states, Tornio and Swedish Haaparanta.

Above the foaming rapid, on a dock, there’s a man with a net. It’s not about normal fishing but catching fish in a traditional way with a scoop-shaped net.
The Kukkola rapids (Kukkolankoski) are nature’s own treasure house when it comes to fish catches. The rapid used to feed the inhabitants in the area. That’s why on its shore there was formed a village. This village of traditional fishing keeps up the old unique way of fishing.
Using the scoop-shaped net with a long handle requires skills. It has to be moved near the bottom so that the whitefish, swimming upstream, gets in the net.
If your own fishing trips result in knotted lines, you can surely develop a taste for fish with the whitefish roasted on a campfire in the Kukkola rapids.

Kemi is Lapland’s sea city. Located beside the city centre, the guest harbour yearly accommodates hundreds of sailors.
The naturally beautiful milieu was rewarded as the guest harbour of the year in 2005. It provides its guests possibilities to refuel their boats, wash up or enjoy restaurant services, for example.
The services of the harbour are provided by Kemin Purjehdusseura ry. and Kemin Työväen Pursiseura ry. These clubs also co-operate as active organisers for races, they organise about 20 sailing races a year.
Kemin Purjehdusseura ry. has been running since 1905 and took part in the international ISAF Sail The World sailing event, with the Port’s spin –race in the beginning of September.

Reindeer, running in the fells of Lapland, are an essential part of a typical Lapland landscape. The calm and gentle life of these sympathetic horn heads is just one side of these effective packages.
Reindeer can be really fast, when needed. When they get to lead a sleigh, they run on the snow like wind. They do speed Santa Claus around the globe in a second. Reindeer are pioneers in snowy terrain. Their cloven hoofs work like snowshoes and carry them on soft snow.
Tourists in Lapland can try reindeer rides in the style of Santa Claus. In Lapland they also organise speed competitions for sleighs driven by reindeers.
